1. Do I need volleyball experience to join?
Not at all! Our trainings and teams welcome all levels, from beginners to experienced players.
2. How much does it cost to train?
Training sessions cost €5 per session, paid via Tikkie (link shared in the Meetup event comments).
3. What about the NEVOBO competition?
If you join a NEVOBO team, there’s a seasonal fee of €264. This covers:
NEVOBO registration
Match participation
Weekly gym trainings from September to March/April.
4. How do I register for training sessions?
All trainings are organised through Meetup:
Go to Meetup.com or download the app.
Search for “The Smashing Expats” in Rotterdam.
Join our group and RSVP to the sessions you want to attend.
5. When is recruitment?
We recruit year-round, as expats and student members often move on. Traditional recruitment happens at the start of the season (late August/September) during exclusive recruitment sessions.
6. How do recruitment sessions work?
Players rotate and play with existing teams, we assess fit and team needs, and if there’s mutual interest, you’re placed on a team. If one team is full, we try to find another spot.
7. Where and when are the trainings?
Tuesdays (and sometimes Thursdays) at Bloemhof Gym, Putseplein, 3073 HT Rotterdam.
Time: 7:50 PM – 10:00 PM. Bring indoor shoes, water, and energy!

8. Can I try before committing?
Yes! You can attend a training session to see if you like it before joining a team.
9. How many people can join a session?
Maximum 26 attendees per session. If it’s full, you’ll be placed on a waiting list. Last-minute cancellations may open spots.
10. How do I pay for trainings or NEVOBO?

NEVOBO: seasonal fee collected at the start of the season (~September).
11. Can I get a club jersey?
Yes! All NEVOBO players can order their official Smashing Expats jersey here.
12. Do I need my own volleyball?
Nope! We provide volleyballs and other gym equipment for training.
13. What if I want to play but only occasionally?
You’re welcome to attend trainings as your schedule allows, but NEVOBO teams expect regular attendance for trainings and matches.
14. Can I join mid-season?
Yes! We accommodate new players whenever spots open, either in training or NEVOBO teams.
15. Do I have to pay the participation fee if I am a NEVOBO member?
No, if you have paid the seasonal fee, you do not need to pay the 5 euro participation fee.
