Many of our members are expats or students, so players often come and go. Because of this, we recruit new members year-round. This gives us a lot of flexibility, and oftentimes, we accept members mid-season.
Additionally, Smashing Expats members enjoy the flexibility of paying per event, with no commitment needed for the whole season. For example, whether you attend one event or 20, the fee is € 5.00 per 2-hour event. On the other hand, NEVOBO status* is a commitment for the whole season.
*Note: As of 9 September 2025, our NEVOBO teams are full. However, since members often move on, we’re always welcoming new players — you never know when a spot might open! Keep attending our trainings to find out ;)
During training sessions, here’s how we welcome interested players:
Arrival & Warm-up: Players arrive and get introduced to the session.
Play & Rotate: Interested players get to play, rotating with them within our existing teams to test chemistry and skills.
Assessment: We evaluate interested players based on fit, position, and team needs (e.g., if a team needs a setter, we focus recruitment there).
Mutual Interest: At the end of the session, if both the player and team are interested, recruitment is confirmed.
Proactive Recruitment: If we have a particular interest in a player, we may approach them directly.
Flexible Placement: If a player is interested but one team is full, we try to find a spot in another available team, though a placement is not always guaranteed.
After that, you officially become a NEVOBO member. Welcome aboard! The final step is paying the yearly membership fee ;)
